Out of the wilderness

Posted: 18 May 2011 in Uncategorized

I’m back from the wilderness (or at least I think I am). It’s been a busy and stressful few months here but I hope things are on the up for us and life will start to get easier for us.

Robyn had her operation and has made a remarkable recovery. She stunned the doctors and nurses with her wonderful attitude to everything which made me very proud. During her operation the surgeon discovered a duplication cyst just at the base of her oesophagus. It was large and very yucky and was apparently a major birth defect which was almost certainly causing her the problems she had suffered with all her life.
Since she had it removed and her hiatus hernia repaired she is better than she has ever been. We had a few problems with food getting stuck in her food pipe but so long as she chews well and drinks plenty with her food she is ok.

She has her sparkle back and it is wonderful to see!

Katie had formal assessments to decide whether she had an ASD and the wonderful news is that the findings were that she DOESN’T have one. It was acknowledged that there are problem areas with her behaviour and social development and she will continue to get help and extra support in nursery and from September, school. The future is bright for Katie which is the best news ever.
Katie is learning to speak really very well now. She gets 5 hours a week of 1:1 support in nursery and her confidence has grown so much because of it. She now initiates play and communicates with other children. Everyone is astounded at her progress. Her behaviour at home is greatly improved too which is a huge relief for me!

So, that is a quick catch up on the girls. I am starting to look forward to the summer now that all our hospital appointments and assessment dates are over with. I have a lot to be thankful for at the moment.
